ActRaiser Renaissance: History Repeats Itself

ActRaiser Renaissance

Are you a huge fan of retro games? Were you born at a time when gaming was just starting to take traction and SNES was all the rage? Well, I am, and I feel that the era of SNES saw some of the best games of all time come into existence. And one of these games was ActRaiser, a 2.5D action and town builder game. The game was perfectly unique and cynical in its own way and that really contributed to the way that it was received by the public with open arms and a lot of love. However, the series quickly saw its demise when Square Enix came together and the franchise simply ceased to exist in popular culture. However, it seems that the publisher came to its senses and is now breathing life back into the franchise in the form of ActRaiser Renaissance.

I’m sure that if you are someone who plays a lot of games on mobile or Nintendo or even on the PC, you must have heard about ActRaiser Renaissance and the way that it brings back the nostalgia from the 20th-century game. I know that I certainly felt this way when I first got my hands on the game. There is simply no other that comes close and does it like this. So I’m really happy with the way that Square Enix has handled this one. The righteous blend of city building and action is on point here. For those of you who are fans of the original game, this one really is a treat for the eyes. Now I’m sure that you are getting impatient and want to know more about the game as soon as possible. So without much further ado, let us get right into it.

ActRaiser Renaissance: About The Game

ActRaiser Renaissance

ActRaiser Renaissance is the newest game by Square Enix, bringing back the franchise by Quentin that made history when it came out for the first time on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System or the SNES. However, further installments in the franchise were not received with a lot of love by the audience and the franchise quickly began to drop in the rankings. It seemed that Square Enix had simply forgotten about it and did not care to give it the love that it deserved. Quintet was already a dead studio by that time and it was up to the publishers to bring it together and make another game. For a long time, the ActRaiser franchise was in shambles, until recently, when it shocked the world with the release of ActRaiser Renaissance.

The game is an action and town-building game that puts you in control of a town that has been overrun by demons and the people of the town are in distress. You play as the Master, the God. And now you must put to rest the demon that defeated you, Tanzra. It turns out that Tanzra has been partying to the fullest after his victory and now it is up to you to rise as a warrior and defeat him in battle. At each first step in ActRaiser Renaissance, you are taken to an action platformer stage where you must defeat the demons and free the town from their presence, making space for the dwellers to live. You defeat a boss at the end and thus win over the land and free it, making you a good god in the eyes of the people.

Now, you must oversee your towns and let all evil perish. You must look after your townspeople and make sure that they do not get lost without you. And that is what the game truly is all about. And ActRaiser Renaissance captures the essence of the original so beautifully, that it feels as if you’re actually playing a game from that time, with all the clunky platforming action to the gameplay mechanics, although paired with prettier graphics and new elements this time. It is something that made me really happy.

ActRaiser Renaissance: Final Words

With all that said, ActRaiser Renaissance is one that made me really happy and renewed my faith in remakes and reboots of old franchises. The game manages to remain true to the original despite having a team that is completely different short of the music composer. If you’re someone who likes platformers with a twist, then I can recommend ActRaiser Renaissance to you without a second of reservation. You should definitely play it and make the most of it.
