Action movies are something that we all enjoy from time to time. In fact, it is one of my guilty pleasures when I don’t feel like doing anything else. It gives me a sense of entertainment when most other movies fail to do so and it makes me feel really intrigued with what is going to come next in the movie. It is always an interesting experience and one that I really look forward to. Action movies are an experience in and of themselves. And honestly, my favorite genre of action movies comes from the 80s, which is why I’m going to talk about the best 80s action movies today. It is going to be interesting to talk about. And I’m really looking forward to it.
The best 80s action movies are iconic for their time, not because they are anything special in particular when it comes to their plot. Rather, they are special because of the type and quantity of action that they employ in their runtime. It is something to truly admire as it was unheard of at the time when action movies were not really a thing and were just coming into being and into their element. That is what makes them so special despite not being much different than the movies that came after them. Rather, it was the sheer quantity of action and innovation that they employed in the face of consumer demand that made them so special. So without much further ado, we are going to talk all about the best 80s action movies and what made them so special.
Best 80s Action Movies: Which One Are They?
Now, talking about the best 80s action movies, there are definitely some that are going to come to your mind, the least of which is not going to be the John Rambo series which continues to be highly popular today. There is just so much to admire when it comes to 80s action movies that it becomes a little difficult to differentiate between them in terms of which one is more special. So let us get right into the best 80s action movies according to us:
Commando is one of the most recognizable movies of the 80s, and clearly the best 80s action movies leader in our opinion. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in the main role, Commando is a movie that redefined the genre and really gave the action movie genre something to stand on as audiences grew to love his strong character and dramatic action sequences. It is never a good idea to mess with his daughter, and the movie makes sure of converting that idea, doubly so. I loved the entire premise of the movie and enjoyed the action and the dramatic scenes that it had, something that was unheard of at the time.
2. Die Hard
Die Hard takes the second spot on our list as it comes in to save the day with Bruce Willis. Die Hard is an industry standard and a staple in most of our homes where it is considered to be the best action franchise of all time. When the movie came out, viewers were particularly impressed by the amount of action that the film brought to the screen at a time when this wasn’t a concept that was very common or a very welcome one. Die Hard ventured to do what no other film did, and in the end, made a name for itself because of it. It is one of my favorite movies of all time and a staple in my collection of the best 80s action movies. I enjoy it a lot, and I’m sure that you will too.
3. Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark
Now, this is a movie that needs no introduction. Starring Harrison Ford in the main role, Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark is a movie that sprung forth a franchise that would go on to be one of the most loved and treasured franchises of all time. It was truly an innovative movie that changed the face of the movie industry and one that was really important for the Hollywood film industry. Personally it is one of my favorites and brings forth a sight of archaeology that rings interesting to most of us nerds.
4. Rambo: First Blood Part II
Rambo is a name that needs no introduction if you have come this far into the list. Starring Sylvester Stallone in the main role, Rambo is one of the most definitive movies of the action genre, starring someone in the main role who is not necessarily a good person, but rather one who is out for his own agenda. It is a movie that would be enjoyed by more modern audiences, particularly for the amount of nuance that it has for an action movie.
