Godzilla vs Kong Ending: Premise and Conclusion
The premise for the Godzilla vs Kong ending starts off in quite an unusual way. We don’t expect either of the two characters in the way that they have been portrayed during the initial act of the film. Godzilla is apparently going crazy for no reason and is not safe for humans anymore. Meanwhile, King Kong is being kept in a containment zone, where he goes through the same rituals every day and is being kept beyond the control of his own will. Both the Titans are going through stuff of their own, and no one can ascertain why it is happening. Eventually, the humans resolve to employ the brute force of King Kong to stop Godzilla, before the giant monster destroys all of humanity. And hence, he is brought out of his containment zone, to fight against the giant reptile.
This is an interesting episode in the MonsterVerse, as it is soon revealed what the reason for Godzilla going berserk is. Apex Cybernetics, the evil technology corporate, is apparently looking for a hollow earth power source to power the Mechagodzilla, their own version of the giant reptile, created through technology, and intended to destroy Godzilla and reign supreme. While Mechagodzilla was initially planned to be brought out earlier in the MonsterVerse, the creators decided against it, and the idea was eventually dropped. Until it was just introduced in the Godzilla vs Kong ending. Soon after the mecha monster is revealed, it becomes quite clear why Godzilla is going berserk.

What Happens during Godzilla vs Kong ending?
Kong takes the humans on a journey to Hollow Earth, where they discover the mystical power source. Kong charges his own axe using the source and makes it resistant to Godzilla’s firey breath. Eventually, taking the chance, the humans also try to get their hands on the signature of the source and to use it for themselves, when Godzilla arrives at the scene and unleashes his fury at the humans, killing them in the process. Unfortunately, the humans do get their hands on the source, and Godzilla and Kong take their fight above the surface.
A furious battle ensues between the skyscrapers of Hong Kong, and both the giants take it upon themselves to end the reign of the other. Both have their own reasons to fight, and there is a sort of sympathy you can feel for both of them. And the only villains are the humans causing all this. The first round goes to Godzilla, who nearly beats Kong to death, and the primate is tired out by all of it.

The introduction of Mechagodzilla
Next up, the Mechagodzilla from Apex comes into play and goes berserk and out of control. The robotic titan goes up against Godzilla, who is already spent from his fight with Kong and is on the verge of collapse himself. Mechagodzilla proves too much for the Titan and that is when the humans revive Kong from impending death and bring him back to strength, with the power of the orphan. Meanwhile, there are numerous attempts to shut down Mechagodzilla. When Kong arrives on the scene to help Godzilla, even he cannot stand up to the Mechagodzilla, and it proves too much for the both of them.
Borenstein said, “It felt essential to have a third thing. Round one goes to Godzilla, and round two goes to Kong. The question is in round three, rather than having one or the other win, how can we have the two of them develop a grudging respect for one another and go up against the third thing? Mechagodzilla felt like this perfect route into that.”
As the Mechagodzilla dominates both the alphas in the battle for domination, and all hope seems to die, with the future looking bleak, there is suddenly a ray of hope. Josh and Bernie, the humans, somehow short circuit the control panel for Mechagodzilla using a liquor flask, and turn the tides of the battle. With the Mechagodzilla now struggling, the two titans Godzilla and Kong miss no chance, as Godzilla blows fire onto Kong’s axe, who then proceeds to chop off each little piece of the Mechagodzilla, taking off its head, and putting an end to the impending doom that he would surely have brought upon the world. Turning it from a battle against Godzilla, to one where he fought with him.

What the Godzilla vs Kong ending was all really about
Commenting on the same, Borenstein said, “Neither Godzilla nor Kong were ever going to lose. There were different moments of how far we took it in terms of Kong taking a beating, but the two of them were always going to gang back up and work together.” That certainly says a lot about the way Godzilla vs Kong ending made us feel.
At the end of the film, after all is said and done, Godzilla and Kong call a truce among themselves, and vow to keep the peace. There is a sort of established arrangement between the humans and the giants, as Godzilla swims back into the ocean, while Kong goes back to his place in Hollow Earth, ruling the lands. The humans, meanwhile, continue to live as they always have, with a hint of mischief, and a hint of fear.
When asked about the essence of the ending, Borenstein stated, “They reveal to us the fact that we’re all connected. Godzilla and Kong, creatures of this scale that can hop around the world and touch everyone haphazardly and create tumult and chaos, reveal that in our globalized world, we are all connected for better and for worse. To me, that’s really what this movie is kind of all about.”
