In spite of Google seeing some success with its Pixel smartphones and various other pieces of technology, such as the Pixelbook Go laptop, one question that bothers most of us is why has Google never introduced its own-brand smartwatch? Well, this question has been asked for a good few years, still, it hasn’t yet received a solid answer. But there are plenty of signs which suggest that, after all the speculations, the Google Pixel Watch is real and it seems it is approaching launch.
If Google does have a Pixel Watch planned, it could give a tough competition to its fruit-themed rival, the Apple Watch 7, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, and all the other best smartwatches available out there.
As per the latest rumors, the long-awaited Google Pixel Watch could finally be happening. What substantiates this fact is that from the beginning of Google’s wearable strategy, the company has always relied on alternate OEMs to carry the hardware torch for its software. However, with the arrival of Wear OS 3 last year, a new version of Wear OS with features from Tizen and Fitbit, the calls for an official Pixel Watch have only increased.
Further what supports the idea that the Google Pixel Watch does actually exist- is the trademark filing by the company for the same in April 2022.

Google Pixel Watch Release Date
It’s been suggested that Google will officially announce the Pixel 6a and will tease the Pixel Watch during Google I/O in May 2022, with the Pixel 6a launch pushed to 28 July in most of the markets. While the Google Pixel Watch will be formally announced and launched in October 2022 with the Pixel 7 devices. But just like in prior years, there is no definite evidence for this claim.
Pixel Watch: Design
A ton of images of the accessory have revealed a lot about its design, thanks to a prototype that has been reportedly found at a restaurant. From what we see, it’s one of the sleekest looking wearables for the Android phone, clearly designed to compete with the Apple Watch from a hardware point of view. However, in contrast to the Apple Watch, Google has opted for a circular watch, rather than a rectangular one with a minimal bezel and a crown on the right-hand side.
Apart from the crown, on the opposite side, we can see a small hole probably for a microphone, along with a slit, likely for a speaker.
The Pixel Watch sports a very minimalist design and it appears to support a proprietary strap system that slides in and out from the side, much like the Apple Watch. There is also a heart rate monitor on the rear of the watch.
There’s no indication of how the watch charges, but presumably it will have wireless charging, just like its rivals.
And, as per reports, the Pixel Watch is said to be coming in three color options- black, grey, and gold.
Pixel Watch: Specifications and Features
We expect that for Google Pixel Watch, the company will use the new Wear OS 3, co-developed by Google and Samsung.
Besides the basic fitness tracking like heart rate tracking and step counting, we’re expecting to see some more advanced features too. Another piece of evidence that suggests that there could be a big focus on fitness is that Google has bought Fitbit and the former could add some killer Fitbit integration to the Pixel Watch. However, at this point, it’s still unclear what exactly this is going to look like. With the Apple Watch and Samsung’s latest smartwatches offering plenty of health features, it would make sense that the Pixel Watch does too.
Recent leaks have revealed that the wearable will feature a 300mAh battery. There are also claims that Pixel Watch will come with 32GB of internal storage and is also expected to offer a variant with cellular connectivity.
In terms of processing power, one source suggests that the Pixel Watch might forego the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4100 series in favor of a Samsung Exynos chipset, the same one as the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 has.
We’ll have to wait for a little to know more about some specifications like screen size, resolution, and what connectivity the Pixel Watch will offer.
Pixel Watch: Pricing and Availability
You all might be wondering how much will the Pixel Watch cost? Well, there is no concrete answer to this question, but as per rumors, the smartwatch might be priced in the range of $300 – $400. This will make the Pixel Watch fall in the same ballpark as the Apple Watch Series 7 and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.
Sources also claimed that the smartwatch could possibly see a limited release, suggesting that it may launch only in a few markets, just like the Pixel phones.
Also, the Google Pixel Watch could come in three models. This is because a Google wearable recently got listed on the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) website with three different model numbers.

The Final Words
That’s all that we know about the Google Pixel Watch. Though the early images of the hardware look extremely promising, as it is always said- looks aren’t everything. Despite the beautiful look, the Pixel Watch needs to offer smarts and seamless integration, so as to stand out in the market.
