There are a lot of post apocalyptic films out there. And they’re quite popular too. In fact, they’re one of the most popular genres out there. And people just keep craving more of them everyday. However, there’s something that most of us have never thought about. And that is the calm before the storm. What we mean to say is, that not many of us have thought about the time that comes before the apocalypse. The lead up to it, the causes and all that it entails. We simply take for granted what the back story for the movie could be. However, that norm is being broken by a new movie on the market. The movie is aptly named How It Ends. And it is based on the exact notion that we have talked about here. But what exactly is it really about?
Well, the movie is about the time that comes before apocalypse strikes. It is all about that time. It asks a very important question. What would you do if you knew when the world was going to end. Would you accept it as your fate and go about your day as usual? Would you celebrate your last day? Or would you wreak havoc over everyone and everything that ever wronged you or that you want to commit wrong to. These are some pretty loaded questions that one might ask themselves. And the movie is all about asking these questions. Arguably, the movie takes one route with its story. But it still begs a lot of questions. So what is this new movie like? Is it worth watching? Read our full How It Ends review to find out.

How It Ends: The Review
How It Ends is arguably based on one of the most original ideas out there. We’re not sure if we’ve watched a movie that is even close to the ideas How It Ends presents. It is definitely one that makes you wonder how the writers even came up with it. It is a movie set in Los Angeles, on the last day of existence for everyone. At the surface, everything seems to be fine. But we’re soon confronted with the reality that this is the last day for everyone, and it all ends soon.
And our main character, Liza, is found reflecting upon her life. While she has had a very fulfilling professional career, she comes face to face with the harsh realities of her life. From unfulfilling relationships to bad choices she made in her teenage, she comes face to face with it all. It is this confrontation with her reality that really sells the story here.
Our character is seen planning for her day, which is to attend an apocalypse party hosted by her friend, and getting high. These are the only things on Liza’s mind, and it shows the reality of emptiness in life. And so, the story for the film follows in an almost absurd manner. And the absurdism that follows isn’t really one that is worth talking about. Because that’s all this film really has to offer.

The movie is one that has an original premise and a great idea behind it. Even the approach the creators have taken for the movie makes a lot of sense and is very original. But that is where the good things end. At the end of the day, the movie is just not a good one. It is one that tried to wing it with a great idea and poor execution. There is really nothing about the movie that makes you go wow. It is all a pretty standard affair, and can at times seem like a series of shots from everyday life put together.
How It Ends just doesn’t bring anything new to the table in terms of specific plot elements, interesting theories, or even comedy. It is just simply mediocre. And it doesn’t want to be anything more. It is a movie that is content with being mediocre. And one that will have you waiting for when it will end, or make you shut it off completely. How It Ends is a movie that will drive away even those who are sold on its premise. It is just that boring. Yes, it has a good cast behind it. The addition of Whitney Cummings to the cast might even be the best thing here. But that is all there is to it. A movie with a lot of promise, but a severe lack of real substance.
How It Ends: The Verdict
There is not really much to talk about when it comes to rating this film. Just don’t. Just don’t watch it. It’s boring, it will have you waiting for it to end. And it is not worth your time. It surely wasn’t worth ours. So it’s going to be a hard no from our side. If you’re feeling particularly brave, you may watch it on a lazy summer afternoon. But really there is nothing more we would like to say about it.
