In the United States, iHeartRadio is freemium broadcasting, podcasting, and radio streaming platform operated by the iHeartMedia company. It was established in April of 2008.

As of 2019, iHeartRadio serves as the national umbrella brand for iHeartMedia’s radio network, which is the biggest radio broadcaster in the United States, according to the company. Audacy, TuneIn, and Sirius XM are the company’s primary rivals.

History

iHeartMedia owns iHeartRadio. It released audio items before 2008. The only exceptions were the 40-80 networks used heavily on Clear Channel’s HD Radio subchannels, many of which transferred unchanged to iHeartRadio.

On the iHeartMusic website, you can listen to over 750 Clear Channel radio stations and keep up with entertainment news. Clear Channel Radio debuted iHeartRadio for iPhone and iPod Touch on October 7, 2008. There are 12 radio stations in 8 cities.

In 2009, iHeartRadio was made available for BlackBerry, Android, and Sonos. iHeartRadio is a free service with hundreds of live radio stations and artist stations. That inaugural iHeartRadio Music Festival at the MGM Grand was led by Ryan Seacrest.

It currently runs on Xbox 360 and WebOS. It came out on iPad on April 20, 2012. iHeartRadio purchased CBS Radio’s rights to power Yahoo! Music’s Radio service on June 8, 2012.

From Tampa to Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles to San Diego, it launched “24/7 News” audio news broadcasts in mid-October 2012. Roku got iHeartRadio on March 1, 2013.

The app is currently available on over 250 devices. In July 2013, iHeartRadio acquired CHUM-FM and CFBT-FM from Canada, as well as Virgin Radio Dubai from the UAE. July 14, 2013, was the NZ and AU premiere.

iHeartRadio Talk debuted on July 24, 2013. Along with celebrity on-demand content, users may publish their own content through Spreaker. “Shows & Personalities” became “Podcasts” in 2016.

The app offers a “Build-a-Bear Workshop Radio” station. At the 2016 iHeartRadio Music Festival, iHeartMedia debuted “iHeartRadio Plus” and “iHeartRadio All Access powered by Napster.” America received iOS and Android beta services on December 1, 2016.

iHeartMedia now has access to Stuff Media’s original content, programming, and management team, solidifying its position as the world’s biggest commercial podcast publisher. Live national music stations like Eclectic Rock or iHeart80s carry the end tag “An iHeartRadio Original Station” from the start of service.

How Does iHeart Make Money?

Listeners may access live radio stations, tailored music stations, playlists, podcasts, and more via the app.
It is possible to rate songs on iHeartRadio by giving them a Like or a Dislike.

Songs that are “liked” or “disliked” on all live radio stations provide the station playing them feedback on their performance. The more you “like” a song, the more frequently it will be played on your personalized stations.

On personalized stations, “disliking” a song implies it will not be played again. A user’s “My Favorites Radio” channel is personalized based on this information.

Bonus songs are added to the mix as My Favorites Radio becomes better at figuring out what the user likes. Songs may be withdrawn from a radio station with ease.

IHeartRadio’s “Discovery Tuner” was a feature of the service’s custom stations that allowed listeners to tweak the tuner to play known tunes, or pick “LESS Familiar” to play a larger selection – or “Mixed” to play a mix of music.

When a subscriber listens to your music, you get compensated a proportionate percentage of iHeartRadio’s monthly subscription income based on the terms of TuneCore’s blanket agreement with the store (which often excludes streaming during a subscriber’s free trial).

IHeartRadio Theatres

On the ground level of 32 Avenue of the Americas, the iHeartRadio Theater is a 250-seat theatre that was originally known as the P. C. Richard & Son Theater; PC Richard sponsors them. Los Angeles has its own iHeartRadio Theater; it debuted in 2013 under that name.
