Kate: Reviewing A Pure Action Movie

Kate

I’m a huge fan of action movies, and I personally really appreciate a lot of gore and violence in what I watch. Which might not be the case for everyone, but it is so for the majority of action movie enthusiasts. Along with an interesting and riveting story, a sense of dread and blood pumping action is a must have for any movie. And that is something that is the crux of the genre, and cannot be compromised on. But what happens when the reverse happens? When you have all that you want from an action movie, but it is really shallow? Is it something that you can enjoy? What do you think about it? I personally feel that an interesting plot matters a lot, even if the action is top notch and unbeatable. Which is why I’m going to talk about the new Netflix movie Kate today.

Now, most of you must have already heard about Kate given how much it has been in the news lately. It is one of those releases that makes the headlines because of the sort of sensationalist content that it offers and manages to rake in a big chunk of the audience with it. And the way that it has been marketed as an exciting violence fest is something that really boosted its popularity. But does it live up to the claims that it makes for itself? Is it really as exciting and violent and mind blowing as it promises to be? It’s a really tall order to fill, don’t you think? Not many have succeeded at it. And Kate promises a lot in that aspect. It makes tall promises that it might struggle to keep. So what is the movie like? Is it any good? Is it worth watching? Keep reading on and check out the full review to find out whether it is.

Another movie I would like to talk about is Captain America 4: Anthony Mackie Takes The Lead. Captain America 4 is one of the most awaited upcoming movies, and I feel that you must check it out at the earliest. So read on to find out all that you need to know about the release date as well as the cast for Captain America 4.

Kate: Movie Review

Now Kate is a very generic movie. Let us just get that out of the way first. It is in no way a movie that tries to innovate or move towards something new. And it doesn’t even try to be. Which is completely okay and acceptable. It tries to deliver on a premise that has been written and sold before and takes a lot of inspiration along the way. All it tries to do is sell its own version of what we have already seen before. Which is completely fine for a movie on Netflix. So I would recommend that you watch the film keeping that in mind.

But that doesn’t excuse it from the fact that its unoriginal premise is outright boring. It’s not a bad plot, but it certainly doesn’t have anything interesting going for it. Kate takes a lot of inspiration from movies of the past and tries to make it into a blockbuster, but it simply doesn’t know which movies to take inspiration from. It’s a really lazy plot, by all means, and doesn’t offer a lot in terms of the value that you get out of it. It is what you have already watched before, and there is no novelty to it. And there is nothing that is going to keep you glued to the screen waiting to see what it is that is going to happen. It’s just not interesting. And makes for quite a weak storyline.

All is not bad about the movie, however. The movie does deliver on what it promises, and that is action and violence. And you are going to find no dearth of that here. Violence is the name of the game here, and it seems that the director went all out to satisfy the appetites of his audience for violence and gore. It is really satisfying to watch Kate go along her way spilling blood and killing people, and it makes for a very violent watch, and one that those who are into gore will appreciate.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead, on the other hand, has just done a phenomenal job here. I would go as far as to say that Winstead’s acting might just be the best part of the movie. She isn’t afraid to let loose here, and you can clearly see that on the screen. She controls the situation with every move, and her presence on screen is intimidating and attention grabbing at the same time. The actress seems to be having a lot of fun as the character, and it seems that she has become one with Kate. She seems to be a natural at violence, and she’s definitely the one in charge. In fact, she is probably making the most that she can out of the plot, and makes her acting in the movie one of the most interesting parts of the film as she manages to turn mundane plot details into interesting finds. She is definitely being held back by the generic and unoriginal plot here, and could have done even better given the right setting and resources.

The pacing of the movie is another weak point, which goes hand in hand with the plot, and there is nothing much to be said about it. The 24 hours of Kate’s life just don’t feel as urgent as they should, and her interactions with those around her merely seem to scratch the surface. So I would have appreciated more of that too. The direction otherwise is pretty decent and there is not much to complain about.

The choice of music here is quite eccentric, and while it fits into the theme of the movie, it just doesn’t have the desired effect on the viewers. Rather than making the movie come off as cool, it makes it come off as pretentious and overdone, and that is something one needs to take note of.

Also, another movie that you might be interested in is Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3: Release Date, Cast, All You Need To Know. Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the best franchises in the history of superhero movies and James Gunn is bringing it back. So read all about it to find out all you need to know about the movie.

Kate: The Verdict

Coming to the verdict for the movie, I would just tell most people not to watch Kate. There is much better content out there that you will surely appreciate more than this mess of a plot. And while the action and Winstead’s acting might be the redemption factor here, it is not for everyone, and I certainly cannot recommend this film. So it is going to be a clear no from my side.
