Midnight Suns: Delayed Yet Again!

Midnight Suns

Marvel’s Midnight Suns is probably one of the most awaited games from the superhero world in a long time. After the disappointing release of Marvel’s Avengers, there is a lot of hope from Midnight Suns to redeem the disappointment that Marvel put out in the form of Avengers. But it has been so long since we have been waiting for the game, and it is getting a little difficult to wait now. And the latest news is probably not going to help either.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns has been in the works for quite some time now but still hasn’t been made available to the public because of the delayed development cycle. The promise to be the game that brings Marvel to the mainstream video game market seems to be fading away with each delay that the game has as expectations get raised and the hype surrounding it grows ever more impatient and high. I’m sure that many of you here are fans of the Marvel Universe and are hence waiting for the release of Midnight Suns. So without much further discussion, let us talk about all that we need to know about Midnight Suns and when it is going to be released.

Midnight Suns: About The Game

Midnight Suns is the latest upcoming game by Marvel and 2K studios. Based on the Marvel comic book series Rise of the Midnight Sons, the game promises to be an adaptation of the comic book series. But rather than being a direct adaptation, it is going to do things differently, and deliver a player focused experience. The main plot revolves around Ghost Rider recruiting and bringing together the Marvel Superheroes to take down Lilith.

At the forefront of the game is the Hunter, a highly customizable character who is the child of Lilith and the only hope to take her down. The Hunter is brought back to life by the superheroes in a bid to take a stand against Lilith and to save the world. The Hunter is completely customizable by the player and has an arsenal of powers to choose from.

From what we have seen so far, it seems like the Avengers and the X-Men come together and raise Hunter from the dead to have a chance against Lilith, and things are bound to get violent sooner or later. Besides, we get to see the characters involved in the game and to see them in action in the newly released trailer.

Midnight Suns: Characters

Talking about the characters in the game, there is no dearth of them. And the trailer makes it a point to showcase them in all their glory. The game, as reported, is going to feature 13 playable heroes, and one of them will be the much talked about Hunter. The other heroes are as follows:

Notice that these are only 10 of the aforementioned 13 heroes. What about the other 3 heroes? Well, we don’t know. Marvel has decided to keep the covers on many aspects of the game and the remaining three heroes are still kept secret. It seems that the characters are going to be introduced further into the story of the game, and have hence been kept under wraps to preserve the surprises that the game has to offer.

The fans are theorizing that the remaining characters could be the Hannibal King, Morbius, or the Living Vampire. But no one really knows for sure. Nevertheless, it is going to be quite interesting, and I am intently waiting for it.

Midnight Suns: Gameplay

Midnight Suns seems like it has a lot to offer in terms of the gameplay that it offers. Firaxis Games is working on the game and is famous for the XCOM series before this. So it is quite an established studio and hopefully, the game would not suffer from the issues that the Avengers did.

The game is going to be a tactical strategy-based game that is going to revolve around turn-based combat, similar to many older iconic games like Pokemon. This is going to be a welcome twist in the grand scheme of things because turn-based games have always been loved by the gaming community. The Abbey, which is supposed to act as the base for the players, is going to be open to exploring for everyone.

Role-playing will play a huge part here and players can expect to spend a good amount of time on figuring out the strategy and action plan for every mission that they undertake, ranging from choosing their allies to their powers and moves.

There is also going to be a card system that is going to determine what abilities the player can use at the start of every battle, and ultimately going to determine the fate of the fight. This has been criticized by the player base because of the luck factor that it introduces to the game rather than making it all about skill and strategy.

A few of the maps that are going to be featured in the game are the Avenger’s Tower, Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum, New York City, deserts, underground Hydra Installations, and Hellscape Dimension. That is going to be a lot to explore and fans are really looking forward to it.

Midnight Suns: Release Date

This is perhaps the most controversial thing about Midnight Suns. The game has been awaited for a long time now and the player fan base has grown very impatient with the delays that the game has been facing. But the game’s creative team iterates that it is for the best and that more time is needed to bring about a more polished and cinematic game with more story.

In a recent announcement, the Midnight Suns team announced the delay on Twitter. They stated, “We decided to share that we’ve made the very tough decision to move our launch window to the second half of 2022. We know many fans were looking forward to playing the game originally next spring, and this decision did not come lightly. We decided to push our launch because we need more time to make this the best game possible. We believe in our creative vision for Marvers Midnight Suns and want to do in delivering an unforgettable adventure in the supernatural side of Marvel. These extra months will be used to add more story, cinematics, and overall polish and will be essential in helping us make our vision a reality.”

This seems to leave no doubt about the timeline of the game. Fans can expect to be able to play Midnight Suns by Q3/Q4 2022, and not a second before the second half of 2022. That is an awfully long time away, and it is going to be tough to wait. But after the disappointment of Avengers, it is going to be well worth it to let the devs do what they need to do.
