If there is anything that is more saddening than a game that is canceled before it is released, it is a game that has been canceled after its release. And that is exactly the case with Durango Wildlands. I’m sure that many of you must have heard the name of that title before. After all, Durango Wildlands made quite a roar when it first came out back in 2016. It was one of the most awaited MMORPGs of the time. Player expectations were really high for the game and it was expected that the new game would change the way that people view mobile gaming. At least, that was the sentiment at that time. The way things transpired after that, however, changed everything. And that is where Project DX comes in.
I’m sure you’re wondering why we are really talking about Durango when we are supposed to be talking about Project DX today. After all, the two games are in very different stages of their maturity and it doesn’t make sense to talk all about Durango Wildlands when we are really here to talk about an upcoming IP that could be the game-changer for Nat Games. But the two games are irrevocably linked, right from the beginning. How that came to be is something that we are going to discuss further in the article, but what you need to know is that the upcoming Project DX might be the spiritual successor of the infamous Durango Wildlands.
So without much further ado, let us talk about Project DX and what it really intends to bring to the table.
Project DX: About The Title
Project DX is the name of an unnamed upcoming project from Nat Games that is supposed to be a replacement for the highly desired Durango. As you might be aware, Durango Wildlands was a game that didn’t exactly have a stable cycle. The game was released after being in beta for a long time, and even after that, was not met with a very warm response. The game went on to grab over 12 million players, but all these players ultimately turned out to be either inactive or were not willing to spend any money on the game. This was bad news for Nat Games who were running the servers and were supporting the game at a very high cost. So after 3 years of keeping the game online, the company decided to pull the plug on Durango Wildlands in 2019. This came as a shock to fans of the series but was quickly remedied by promises of a spiritual successor.
This spiritual successor comes in the form of the upcoming Project DX. Being made by DX Studio, a subsidiary of Nat Games, which is further a subsidiary of Nexon, the game doesn’t have a concrete title as of yet and is still under active development. After the mixed response to Durango, the developers of the game decided that they needed to create something that was more in line with what the audience expected and hence created Project DX. The game is going to be similar to its predecessor and is going to be an MMORPG that will ultimately be produced by many of the same people that created Durango, now with much better knowledge of what the audience wants.
If you’re someone who was not able to get their hands on the original game when it came out, this is your second chance because this might just be a new beginning for the franchise, and a good one while we are at that.

Project DX: Release Date
Now, with all the excitement for the upcoming Project DX, a release date is surely something that a lot of you would prefer to know. However, given the stage of the project, the company hasn’t really set a release date for the game yet. However, what we do know is that this is going to be a global release, as the company has mentioned this specifically in their job posting where they mentioned that they needed someone with experience in developing for a global environment. This is certainly good news to hear and the project is undoubtedly underway. The release date for the project is something that we can simply not predict at this point in time. However, one should be hopeful that it comes out as soon as possible.
