The plot was derived from Kaiu Shirai’s manga series of the same name. CloveWorks animated the series under the direction of Mamoru Kanbe.
The protagonists are a ragtag bunch of orphans who call Grace Field House home and have a blast there. A loving and nurturing MAMA has been taking care of the children. The kids were all orphans, yet they treated each other like family and lived together joyfully.
There was no favoritism or unfair treatment of any of the orphans, and although they were subjected to examinations every day, they were always given time to relax and have fun afterward. This was the only regulation the children had to observe because they were not allowed to leave the orphanage without adult supervision.
The plot takes an unexpected turn, however, when three talented children—Emma, Norman, and Ray—learn the unsettling truth about their existence. Because of this, they concoct a dangerous scheme to free themselves and the other children from their doomed fate.
