As a fan of esports, Rocket League is one of my favorite sports games of all time. Even though the game is not based on a real sport, it is one that has managed to captivate my attention for years now. The premise of the game is so unique that it manages to remain fresh and stand against the test of time. I believe that a lot of you feel the same way, given that the Rocket League community is still so active and still has new players coming to it every single day. Now, the developer for the game is making big strides in the world of mobile gaming with Rocket League Sideswipe, its latest version of the game that has been downsized for mobile.
I’m sure that listening to this, as a Rocket League fan, you are as intrigued as I am. After all, who would hurt from having a Rocket League game on mobile? Not me, that’s for sure. With Rocket League Sideswipe, the fun just keeps getting more and more intense, and that is something that I really like about it. The game takes the original Rocket League game and puts it in a package that is not only small and more optimized for mobiles but is actually a little different from the original, and in a good way. So with that said, I’m really excited to talk about Rocket League Sideswipe today. So without much further ado, let us get right into it.
Rocket League Sideswipe: About The Game
As most of you might know, Rocket League Sideswipe is an esports video game that is focused on a game of soccer that is played on a digital field, only this time, instead of actual feet, you drive around fast cars to hit the ball in different directions and to score goals. In the original game, you are thrown into a three-dimensional version of the field where you can control and maneuver the car in any general direction that you feel like. However, Rocket League Sideswipe changes things up a little and instead goes for a 2D concept game that is unlike any other that we have seen in the genre. Personally, I initially thought that the sideswipe concept was going to be a buzzkill and would not be any fun. However, I was quickly proven wrong.
Rocket League Sideswipe puts you in a 2D version of the game that plays only in one dimension so that you can only move the car towards and away from the goal and make it jump if you want. There is no option to maneuver the car in the other direction as it is a side scroller game. Surprisingly, the concept works quite well for the game and manages to make it so fun despite being simple at the same time.
The layout of the controls also works especially well considering that the game is meant to be played on small mobile screens. All of it just works, and you never feel like you’re playing anything else other than a Rocket League game. And that is a really big compliment, in my opinion, especially considering that Rocket League in itself is one of the leading esports titles in the market.
However, if you’re looking for the traditional Rocket League experience, Rocket League Sideswipe is going to disappoint you. That’s because it is not trying to be like the original game. It is an extension of it, and that is where it excels. So before you go in with huge expectations, consider all the facts that you already know and play the game with an open mind.

Rocket League Sideswipe: Should You Get It?
When the original Rocket League came out, it didn’t get quite as popular with gamers because of the upfront fee that they had to pay to play the game. However, the same is not the case with Rocket League Sideswipe. The new mobile game has been launched completely free of charge and does not contain any forced monetization for anyone. It is a clean experience for anyone looking to play Rocket League on their mobile, and that is something I commend it for.
By itself, Rocket League Sideswipe is an excellent mobile game that manages to capture the fun and competitiveness of the original in a really different way and makes the best of the hardware that it has, and uses the screen real estate is a very wise way. I’m really excited about what the future might hold for this game and would continue playing it as a staple in my collection.
