Santa Clause 4: About the Franchise

Santa Clause is a holiday movie franchise that stars Tim Allen in the main role of Scott Calvin. Most of you might be aware of Tim Allen as he is a very well known name in the Hollywood industry and is famous for his work in the nineties sitcom Home Improvement. Other than that, Galaxy Quest, The Shaggy Dog, and Toy Story are other films that he has starred in and given life to. He is undoubtedly an amazing artist with a stellar career behind him. And Santa Clause is the biggest of his achievements over so many years.

Santa Clause is a film franchise centered around the character of Scott Calvin, a man who kills Santa Claus, but is unaware of the consequences that he would have to suffer for the same. Killing Santa Claus, the Santa Clause, an agreement, is invoked that he must now follow. The Clause states that Calvin must now become the Santa Claus upon the death of the old Santa Claus and continue on with the legacy. The movie undoubtedly went on to become a holiday classic and was well received by the audiences who praised the wholesome nature as well as the light vibe of the movie.

Following the success of the first movie, the creators went on to make Santa Clause 2 and Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause. The last Santa Clause movie happened in 2006, which is over 15 years old now. So fans have rightfully been asking about the existence of a fourth movie in the franchise. And we might have the answers to that.

Santa Clause 4: Is It Happening?

Before we get to Santa Clause 4, we need to get a proper understanding of the franchise. The first movie was very well received by audiences and critics alike and was even praised for its screenplay. It went on to make quite a profit at the box office and was a huge success for the producers. Then, they decided to make a second movie, following the success of the first. The budget for the second movie was almost 3 times as much as that of the first movie. But still, it went on to make earnings that were lesser than that of the first. This should have been a red flag to the producers.

Nevertheless, a third movie was then released in 2006, and it barely made a profit at the box office and was a complete failure for the team. It went on to be rated a measly 17% on Rotten Tomatoes. That is a really abysmal rating for any movie and was probably a sign for the producers to stop milking the franchise since the ratings were falling off with each consecutive movie.

Given the way that the franchise has fared so far, it is really not looking good in terms of Santa Clause 4. The movie is very unlikely to ever happen given the way the ratings have dropped with each movie. Producers are out to make money too. And Santa Clause 4 simply doesn’t seem like the kind of movie that will bring that. So it makes no sense to go ahead with it. We are probably never going to see Santa Clause 4, and maybe it is for the best.

Santa Clause 4: Final Words

All things considered, Santa Clause is a movie franchise with a very strong beginning, so I would recommend you to watch the first movie. The successors to it, though, have been nothing short of disappointments. So I would highly recommend you to skip them. Given that, it is probably for the best that Santa Clause 4 isn’t happening. Because that will save the franchise from further shame.
