The Snapdragon® 8 Gen 1 Mobile Platform is our most sophisticated 5G platform yet, with our Snapdragon® X65 5G Modem-RF System ushering in unparalleled speeds up to 10 Gbps while enabling all-day power and more places than before.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 delivers top Wi-Fi 6 & 6E with multi-gig rates – even with numerous devices on one network.
What Is Snapdragon 8 Gen 1?
A new top smartphone processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, was unveiled at the most recent Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit.
The new Snapdragon 888 will be replaced by this new CPU in a handful of high-end smartphones in 2022.
Qualcomm’s first Arm v9 CPU cores and Samsung’s 4nm manufacturing node technologies are both included in the new chip.
Using Qualcomm’s reference design and a few hours to do tests on the new performance core based on Arm’s Cortex-X2 core IP, we attended a testing session ahead of devices due in Q1.

Features of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
- Connectivity-
The new Snapdragon 8 is the most sophisticated 5G mobile platform and the world’s first 5G modem-RF solution to deliver 10 Gigabit download speeds, thanks to the Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF System.
All games and applications run seamlessly, even with numerous devices connected to a single Wi-Fi hotspot that supports Wi-Fi rates of up to 3.6 Gbps.
- Camera-
It has gone professional with this new premium platform. More than 4000 times more camera data than its predecessor is captured by the first commercial 18-bit mobile ISP allowing for breathtakingly fast 3.2 gigapixels per second rates for extraordinary dynamic range, color, and clarity.
Additionally, the new Always-On ISP in Snapdragon 8 lets the camera operate with exceptionally low power consumption, allowing customers to take advantage of always-on face unlocking and locking even when their face isn’t visible.
- AI-
It has a 2x faster tensor accelerator and a 2x bigger shared memory than its predecessor, making it 2x quicker and more efficient than the seventh Gen Qualcomm AI Engine.
AI-based natural language processing from Hugging Face can intelligently act as your personal assistant by sorting and analyzing your alerts.

- Gaming-
As compared to the previous generation, the new Qualcomm® AdrenoTM GPU delivers a 30% increase in graphics rendering capabilities and a 25% improvement in battery conservation.
- Sound-
Too far, this is just the only mobile platform to enable all-new LE audio capabilities including broadcast audio and stereo recording.
- Security-
The new Snapdragon 8 has vault-like security to help secure consumers’ data. When it comes to app and service security, the first specialized Trust Management Engine for the Snapdragon platform has been added to provide a higher level of protection.
Android Ready SE—the new standard for digital auto keys, driver’s licenses, and more—is also included on the Snapdragon 8 platform.
With the Qualcomm® Secure Processing Unit, users may connect to cellular networks without a SIM card by using iSIM, an integrated SIM card.
Comparison Between Snapdragon 888(plus) and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
Qualcomm claims that the CPU component performs 20% better and uses 30% less power than the Snapdragon 888 (Plus).
So the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the fastest CPU for Android phones and should be placed between the Apple A13 and A14 CPU. As a result of the larger Tensor engine, the integrated AI Engine may give up to four times the AI performance.

The 18-bit Spectra-ISP, which has been renamed Snapdragon Sight, has also seen a major upgrade. The Adreno 730 has a 30% increase in graphics performance over the Adreno 660.
As a bonus, the new Snapdragon X65 5G modem provides quicker data transfers (up to 10 Gbps download and 3 Gbps upload). Wifi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 are supported by the FastConnect 6900.
Comparison between Apple’s A15 Bionic and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
There are two extra processing units in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which is a significant improvement over Apple’s A15 Bionic. It also has a lower transistor size, which allows for 20% greater memory bandwidth. In addition, the A15 Bionic’s AnTuTu score of 847K points is lower than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1’s average score.
Despite this, the A15 Bionic offers roughly 40% greater single-core performance and about 27% better multi-core performance, according to Geekbench results.
All in all, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the closest rival to Apple’s A15 Bionic, which dominates with faster clock speeds, higher GPU frequencies, and greater optimizations. It’s still a top mobile CPU for Android devices, however, with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
Achievement of Snapdragon 8 Gen1
The top-performing Android flagship in January 2022, according to AnTuTu, was the Xiaomi Mi 12 Pro with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor and an average score of 979,499 points.
OnePlus’s 10 Pro and Motorola’s Edge X30 have both scored over one million on AnTuTu greets to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 boasts a faster CPU frequency and is built on a more efficient semiconductor design, in addition to UFS 3.1 storage and LPDDR5 memory.
In terms of RAM management, intensive apps, and power consumption, it is excellent. As another proof of Qualcomm’s confidence in its new processor, several smartphone makers across the globe are gearing up to introduce high-end smartphones equipped with it.
