Starstruck: New Drama Makes It Big

Starstruck is one of the most different shows that I have had the pleasure of watching in 2021. The show is also one that has been in the limelight for most people who started watching shows involving a lot of drama and unrealistic problems this year. The COVID pandemic has surely changed the way that we watch TV shows, and Starstruck is one show that will surely have a different effect because of being released at such a time, not because it seemingly takes advantage of the situation, but because it caters to a different sense of taste that we have developed during the pandemic.

Starstruck is one of those shows that have changed the way we view comedy and drama in 2021. The show takes a very different turn in terms of what people expect from comedies and drama, and that is perhaps what makes it so memorable despite it not being so special in terms of the content that it delivers. It is something to really hold up in terms of new content as it really introduces you to a new type of comedy that goes from surrealism to absurdism really fast and takes you on a really fun ride. This is why we are here to talk about it and get into more detail about it. So without much further ado, let us talk all about Starstruck, and what I liked about it.

Starstruck: About The Show

Starstruck is a new show on the streaming service, HBO Max. HBO Max has been doing really well for itself for a while now and has built a rapport among its viewers for delivering only the best content out there and holding itself up to its standards. However, that also means that people expect a lot out of the platform now and it has little room to make errors. Starstruck is quite a risky endeavor for the network in terms of what it offers and could have easily been the downfall for it. But here we are in 2021 when people are apparently loving the show for the fresh breath of air that it is.

Starstruck follows the story of Jessie, played by Rose Matafeo, from London, who suddenly finds herself in a situation where she hooks up with a movie star Tom, played by Nikesh Patel here. The show puts them in an awkward situation after they hook up as Jessie does not know the reality about Tom and how famous he is, and the show follows the story after that. It is a romantic comedy that tries to be different in the era of the COVID pandemic and is not corny in any sense.

The show takes a turn as Tom’s job hurls him around the world on to different countries and cities, where he has no dearth of attention, while his hookup with Jessie makes him realize how much chemistry they both have with each other and how great they are together. It is truly a dilemma for the two, and that is what the show is really all about, which is not helped by the fact that Tom’s agent is anything but supportive about their relationship, rather choosing to focus on getting Tom involved in the headlines.

Tom, however, is someone who doesn’t speak much and simply goes along with his suggestions. Jessie presents a warm contrast to his character in her bubbly and extroverted manner and provides a nice balance to the show. The two characters really complete each other and take us on a journey of uncertainty that keeps us guessing what really would happen between the two. Reminds me of classic Hollywood romances.

The show itself is quite great and riddled with emotion and humor. You would never feel a dull moment watching it, and that is perhaps one of the best things about it. The actors here both have amazing chemistry with each other and it really brings the drama to life. Hence, I find myself recommending this show to everyone despite it not being something truly special, but being good at what it sets out to achieve.
