The film takes audiences in 1887 after the American Civil War, Bounty hunter and Civil War veteran Major Marquis Warren is moving to Red Rock, Wyoming. On the way, he takes a lift from a stagecoach driven by O.B.; He meets John Ruth ‘The Hangman’ handcuffed to runagate Daisy Domergue.

Ruth is taking Daisy to Red Rock to hang her. Ruth and Warren previously bounded over Warren’s letter from Abraham Lincoln. Sometime later, Ruth finds Lost-Causer Chris Mannix on the road. Ruth gets suspicious that Mannix and Warren are working together to take his bounty.

The members of the stagecoach have been entrapped from the blizzard at Minnie’slodge, which is in charge by Senor Bob. Red Rock’s new Hangman, Oswaldo Mobray, cowboy Joe Gage and Sanford Smithers are the other lodgers who live with them in the lodge.
