Alexander said in the video “As you may have guessed, we’re shooting season five of The Last Kingdom. Considering the circumstances, we’re incredibly fortunate to be in production at the moment”
“Everyone is doing their part, it’s going very well so far and we hope to be able to bring something really special.”
“I wanted to say thank you for all your continued support, because we wouldn’t be here without you, and we’re all sending you lots of love.” The German actor expressed his gratitude towards the series’ fans, stating the above.
The Last Kingdom Season 5: Cast
Unfortunately, some cast members wouldn’t return for the fifth and final season of The Last Kingdom.
We won’t see Ian Hart’s Father Beocca agains after he took his last breath.
Marchant told “It was really hard to lose Ian Hart, who is such a fantastic actor, but we’ve always tried to show that the battles have real consequences” He added “That is then folded in with Uhtred’s impetuousness in feeling that this is the right moment to retake Bebbanburg, without fully realising the repercussions.”
Further said “So he loses his father figure, the person that has always been there for him, has guided him, has fought with him, has been his moral compass in many ways.”
Sadly, we’ve also bid farewell to Toby Regbo’s Aethelred.
Marchant told “I’d like to think it was genuine redemption.”
He further added “I think in those moments when you reflect back on everything you’ve done in your life, I think he learned from his mistakes and regretted them. I think there is certainly a moment between him and Aethelflaed when he acknowledges how cruel he had been. Ambition had taken over.”
We also lost Cnut (Magnus Bruun) and Steapa (Adrian Bouchet).
However, Alexander Dreymon as Uhtred is someone who will definitely be back in Season 5. The final season will also feature new cast members, including Patrick Robinson as Father Benedict, a holy man with a troubled past and Sonya Cassidy as Eadgifu, a wise and openhearted Saxon who arrives in Winchester. The Last Kingdom season 5 is likely to have exciting alterations behind the camera as well.

The Last Kingdom Season 5: Plot
Netflix has released an official synopsis, which discloses that the fifth season will see “Uhtred realise his destiny is more than just Bebbanburg. It is tied to the future of England itself.
“Charged with training King Edward’s first-born son Aethelstan as a warrior, Uhtred’s ambition will have an even higher purpose. But to achieve this destiny, Uhtred will have to face down his greatest enemy and suffer his greatest loss.”
Shooting of season 5 of The Last Kingdom is currently ongoing. Just like the first four seasons, filming is mainly based in Budapest, Hungary. Some fans are sad to hear that the show is going to conclude with the forthcoming season.
It will be fascinating to know what those behind The Last Kingdom have in store for Uhtred. Based on the description, Season 5 seems like he’ll be busy with Aethelstan. It also seems likely that other new characters may have major roles too, though we’re not sure how much they will factor in the story. We’re hoping that the fifth and final season of the show will have a satisfying end.
