I am a huge fan of stories that manage to incorporate dark elements with pure psychological horror. They have a sort of appeal to them that I just cannot pinpoint. It might be that we are too attuned to such stuff. Or it might just be the sadist inside us that loves them. Nevertheless, The Night House is here to quench your thirst for Dark Psychological Horror Thrillers. It is a bang on film for the genre and one that I am really excited to review.
Psychological thrillers are sort of a hot topic on our blog, and I am sure that our readers will be quite aware of that. I personally love when a movie is psychologically engaging and messed up in its nature. It takes you away from the everyday reality of things and puts you in a scenario that you might only ever be able to imagine. It doesn’t matter that the scenario might be very grim or very out of the possibility of ever happening. It is just something that appeals to you. And engages you on a level that everyday life doesn’t. And that is why we tend to love them.
The Night House is another addition to this hot genre. And quite a dark one too. The Night House is the story of a widow, and the way she loses her husband, and the aftermath following his death. It is a very surreal story, with twists that you would not expect from it. And that is what I really like about it.
So without much further ado, let us talk all about the movie, and the way it pleased me, and the way it disappointed me. And all that you need to know about it before getting into it.

The Night House: A Review
The Night House is quite a promising movie, with a very promising beginning. The movie begins with the funeral of Beth’s husband, and shows her mourning over her loss. A very dark beginning to the movie indeed. And it all just becomes darker as time goes on.
The casting for the movie is really well done and I really liked the way that the creators brought on Rebecca Hall for the role. She is a great choice for the lead role here and I really appreciate all the talent that she brings along and the way she breathes life into Beth. Her intense acting and dialogue delivery add a lot to the movie and will surely have you thinking about it for a long time.
The plot itself is quite well made as Beth falls deeper and deeper into her quest to find out what happened to her husband and uncovered the secrets behind his death and why he killed himself. She learns more and more about him, and uncovers things that she wishes she hadn’t. And that really lends to the plot of the story.
Overall, it is a very neat plot with very neat execution. And I love the way that it portrays the psychological aspect of Beth’s state as she drowns deeper and deeper into the mystery.
The movie is very well paced with a very interesting climax and a very well thought out ending. As a fan of horror movies, you are surely going to love the eerie vibe that it maintains throughout and it is surely one that will give you the chills. A good movie, by all measures.
