The Undoing is one of the highest-grossing shows by HBO in all its years of existence and takes the viewers on a ride that they could not have imagined a few years ago. The psychological mystery, which revolves around deception and mystery, and things that lie beyond our vision, is one of the best that the network has put out. The season 1 finale aired almost a year ago and gave the season a conclusion that was fitting beyond measure. But will the show return for Undoing Season 2? If so, what would the plot be like? And who would star in the show? What about the release date? These are the questions that need answering, so without much further ado, let us get right into it.

Undoing Season 2: The Show So Far
Based on a novel, Undoing is a psychological mysterious show that revolves around the murder of Elena Alves and the involvement of Jonathan Fraser in the events that revolved around it. The main character of the show comes in the form of Grace Fraser, Jonathan’s wife, played by Nicole Kidman. The show runs across a short season and shows the story of Grace discovering who the man behind the mask of her husband Jonathan Fraser, played by Hugh Grant, really is. The ending of the first season revealed him for the man and murderer that he really was, and opened up all doubts of his involvement in Elena’s murder.
The season let viewers broil in their own creative juices, theorizing and betting against each other as to the conclusion of the show, and over the course of the final episodes, showed Grace uncovering the true nature of Jonathan for the selfish and sociopathic man that he is. She reveals his reality to everyone, and in the process, releases herself from his grasp, and away from him. Jonathan is eventually taken away by the police, and put behind bars for life. The series gave an epic conclusion to the story in the season 1 finale, and put most doubts and rumors about the show to rest. But what does it mean for season 2?
Undoing Season 2: Could It Happen?
Undoing was released as a mini series that was supposed to tell its story in a small time frame that was deemed appropriate by the showrunners, and it did exactly that over the course of its run on television. It gave the story, lifted straight from the book, the conclusion that it needed, within the first season itself. It was never meant to stretch across multiple seasons, and stuck to its guns. Though it would not be impossible that HBO did decide to go ahead with a second season, it would be highly unusual given the circumstances. Even the director Susan Bier stated that six hours was the perfect amount of time to tell the story, and that that was it.
What The Team Said
She stated, “I would love to tell more of the story. But it’s purely wishful thinking.I’m capable of thinking that Father Christmas is real, so I will allow myself for that bit of wishful thinking. There’s been no conversations about it at all. There are no plans for it. So, like thinking that Father Christmas is coming down the chimney, maybe we can do a season 2.”
Executive producer David E Kelley, though, was quite reluctant to give a final statement on the same, and simply stated that he would not like to say anything on the matter because such statements have proven to be untrue earlier, but that he did not intend on making the Undoing Season 2 happen.
So given all this, it would be highly unusual if Undoing Season 2 happened, because it is simply a story that has met its conclusion, and there are no plans to bring it back on the minds of the showrunners.
Possible Plot For Undoing Season 2
However, if things were to go the opposite way, and Undoing Season 2 did actually happen, I think that we can expect the aftermath of Jonathan’s arrest to wreak havoc on the lives of those around him. The second season could focus on Nicole Kidman’s character and the way Grace and Henry deal with the fallout from the season 1 finale. We could see Grace standing up again, and beginning her life with a fresh start. Although that doesn’t sound nearly as enticing as the events of season 1, so I’m not sure if I would even want to watch it.

Undoing Season 2: Final Words
With all things being said, it would be highly unusual for HBO to bring back Undoing for a second season. And I would personally not be able to imagine a story after the events of season 1. So maybe it is for the best after all. Because the story has already been told, and there needs to be no further explanation for the same. But we can still enjoy the show for what it is, and the story that it tells.
