Sony Pictures announced earlier this year that the film adaptation of Where the Crawdads Sing will be released on June 24th, 2022. The film is based on the same-named novel by Delia Owens. Daisy Edgar-Jones stars in Olivia Newman’s film Where the Crawdads Sing. Last year, we learned that Reese Witherspoon will be directing a film adaptation of Delia Owens’ finest novel Where The Crawdads Sing. To be honest, the only way this news could be much better would be if Reese herself was set to feature in the movie.
Kya, an independent young woman, is the focus of Where the Crawdads Sing (Edgar-Jones). Kya lives alone in the marshes of a little town in the mid-twentieth century South after her family abandons her. When Kya’s ex-boyfriend is found dead, she becomes a murder suspect. She must cope with the villagers and authorities who suspect her of being a criminal.
Let’s see what is Where the Crawdads Sing All About?
Lucy Alibar, who also wrote the script for “Troop Zero,” adapted Delia Owens’ novel “Where the Crawdads Sing.” Oliva Newman, who also wrote and directed “First Match,” a drama starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, directs the film. Following her debut in 2018, this will be Newman’s second feature picture.
Reese Witherspoon, who previously chose the film as part of her Hello Sunshine Book Club in 2018, is producing the project. “Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine,” “Big Little Lies,” and “Little Fires Everywhere” are just a few of the titles Witherspoon has championed with her book club before adapting for TV or film.
“Where The Crawdads Sing,” based on the famous novel of the same name, follows the storey of Catherine Danielle Clark, sometimes known as Kya, but better known in the tranquil village of Barkley Cove as “Marsh Girl.” When the attractive star quarterback is discovered dead in the swamp, the village suspects the strange girl has gone bloodthirsty.
The beautiful style and captivating mystery of the coming-of-age storey earned it a position on the New York Times bestseller list. The novel sold more print copies in 2019 than any other adult book. Naturally, the novel is being adapted for the big screen after capturing the interest of so many people.
The Novel “Where the Crawdads Sing”
The novel “Where the Crawdads Sing” by author Delia Owens was published in 2018 and became an unexpected megahit after being endorsed by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine Book Club. According to The New York Times, it sold more print copies than any other adult publication, fiction or nonfiction, in 2019.
It had sold over 4.5 million copies by the end of the year. According to Delia Owens, the book sold 10 million copies throughout the world in February of this year. This is an incredible achievement for a debut literary work with a print run of only 28,000 copies.
As a result, there is a lot of excitement and great expectations for the film adaptation. Reese Witherspoon’s $900 million production firm, Hello Sunshine, is behind the film. Witherspoon is the ideal producer for this project, since she has established herself as Hollywood’s most culturally prominent producer of female-centered cinema and television, producing (and occasionally appearing) in films such as “Big Little Lies,” “Gone Girl,” and “The Morning Show,” among others.
